Tender Details
The Soil Conservation Service is the Head Contractor engaged by NSW Legacy Mines to undertake the Ottery Remediation Project. This civil construction project involves a major campaign of rehabilitation works at both the Ottery Mine and Tent Hill Processing Area which are contaminated with Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) from historic mining activities for Tin and Arsenic. The remediation work involves the construction of a below-ground containment cell centred around 2 existing mining subsidence voids. Waste tailings bodies from both Ottery Mine and Tent Hill are to be excavated and treated with lime before emplacement in the cell according to specified layers and strict compaction. Excavation is guided by an experienced geochemist and the 8 layers form a critical sequence that aims to bind the heavy metals and reduce acidity in leachate. The containment cell will be capped with locally won clay and overburden then revegetated to native scrubland. The public Crown reserve will return to its current land use being a tourist attraction for mining enthusiasts. All works will be conducted in accordance with a fleet of Management Plans, environmental controls and strict occupational hygiene and workplace health and safety controls. The project is expected to take 6 months to complete during the winter period of May to October 2021.
