Request for Information - Regional Rail Digital Connectivity: Products, Innovations, Partnerships, Solutions - WS3388745582..

Transport for NSW is seeking to identify current and emerging innovative technology and commercial solutions to achieve continuous digital connectivity for regional rail customers in NSW.

TfNSW is looking to understand market capabilities, opportunities, and challenges to guide us towards solutions worth pursuing for future digital connectivity in the regions.

This RFI will guide solution(s) that fit our needs within the priorities set by our 10 year Blueprint and help TfNSW to understand viability from a commercial perspective.

 

The Problem

The poor digital coverage experience in regional NSW means that regional rail customers find it difficult to work, stream and connect with family and friends whilst travelling. Achieving our targeted customer outcomes would mean customers are able to call, text, stream without buffering, video conference and engage in other digital activities throughout their journey.

 

The Purpose

TfNSW’s Future Transport Technology Roadmap 2021-2024 has committed to a Priority Program in which Technology willtransform mobility inregional NSW. Digital connectivity will be provided at transport hubs and on major services. As part of this Priority Program we have committed to investigate:

T055 On-board connectivity on regional transport services: Rollout of expanded infrastructure to enable a high-performance media streaming capability for customers taking regional and intercity services.

What are we looking for?

 

The primary purpose of the RFI is to seek information from industry on current and emerging products/solutions, innovations, initiatives, partnership models and/or developments in the market that might solve the problem of providing continuous digital connectivity for NSW regional rail customers.

 

Solutions of interest would have a keen eye to the future, offer an efficient whole of life model, and harness innovations in commercial models and technology to solve this problem in an accelerated manner.

 

Attachment A – The Problem Statement details the scope, proposed customer outcomes and guiding principles, and Attachment B – Supporting Information provides respondents with detailed background information that will help shape their responses.

 

The opportunity

This RFI provides a forum through which government can welcome your innovations and creative solutions. The ideas and solutions proposed through this RFI will potentially help to inform and guide future digital connectivity in the regions.

As several major roads run adjacent to rail, there is an opportunity for solutions to broaden their customer reach and be capable of serving road modes such as cars, trucks, buses/coaches, and potentially also enable future connected mobilities.

There are several ways to solve this problem and the information uncovered through this RFI will help TFNSW determine which type of solution is best to pursue moving forward.
