Tender Details
The NSW RFS presently utilises a variety of aviation assets for delivery of firefighting services across NSW. Both fixed and rotary wing aircraft are used for a range of tactical and transport roles in support of firefighting and other emergency operations.
The NSW RFS has determined these types of aircraft were highly effective in the combat of bush and grass fires. Their effectiveness in Aerial Firefighting operations was primarily due to the volume of water and retardant/suppressant carried, as well as the speed of the aircraft and ability to provide a Statewide response.
After the successful integration of contracted Type 1 (Heavy) Helicopters into the Aerial Firefighting fleet, the NSW Government has allocated funding for the NSW RFS to purchase its own Type 1 (Heavy) Helicopter. An owned Type 1 (Heavy) Helicopter will supplement the capabilities of the existing fleet of fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft that are owned or contracted by NSW RFS through State (Call When Needed) and National (National Aerial Firefighting Centre – NAFC) contracting arrangements. The Helicopter will be owned by the NSW RFS with the management, operation, maintenance and support service for aircraft outsourced to a third-party Supplier.
