Building a New Feral Predator Free Area at Nungatta in South East Forest National Park, south of Imlay Road between Nungatta Creek Road and White Rock River.
The 2,085 hectare Nungatta Feral Predator Free Area (Nungatta FPFA) is one of the four announced by NSW Government in December 2020.
NPWS plans to have foxes and cats eradicated within the site by July 2023 and begin re-introduction of locally extinct or declining threatened species in spring of 2023. This Nungatta FPFA is expected to be operating for up to 30 years and contain resilient, self-sustaining populations of locally extinct or declining species.
The works will construct a 2050ha fenced area in which foxes and cats are eradicated so that locally extinct and threatened animals can be re-introduced.
Summary of the works are :-
1. Mark and clear a new 30km long, 15m wide corridor in undulating forested terrain, lopping overhanging limbs and removing high risk trees adjacent to the cleared corridor.
2. Build 16.7km new roads, upgrade 6.3km existing roads and prepare 7.0km verge of existing roads to provide fire and maintenance access to the feral proof fence.
3. Build 2 new bridges and 17 new piped culvert crossings. And modify 2 existing bridges and 3 existing piped culverts crossings.
4. Erect 30km 1.8 meter feral predator fence with 22 vehicle gates and 11 pedestrian gates.
