Tender Details

The NSW RFS is widely acknowledged as the largest volunteer fire service in the world. At the heart of the Service is its members. Thus, there is a great need for RFS (the Service) to continually recruit new volunteers and support existing members. To be effective in this, RFS needs to provide a better solution to support new members to become volunteers and existing members to change their membership status (e.g. dual, transfer, re-join).

The first experience many of its volunteers have with RFS is when they look to join a brigade. Currently, the volunteer membership application process is paper-based and manually intensive. It is prone to errors such as duplication and double handling, as well as unnecessary work such as manual data entry—especially at the brigade level. The current processing time is lengthy which also does not provide transparency and visibility of progress to the applicant and the approvers.

Given the current state of the volunteer membership application experience it is a deterrent rather than an enabler for the Service to gain more members. There is a great opportunity to improve the process and experience—which helps brigades, districts and the Service manage volunteer applications and change in membership status in a timely and effective manner.

The main goal of the project is to enable the brigades, districts and the Service to conduct a more efficient membership application process. To be able to do that, the project aim to deliver an online volunteer membership application that is available to the public. This will allow the applicants, brigades and districts to move away from a paper-based manual process. Which in turn will provide an improved volunteer membership application experience and valuable insights to the individual brigades, districts, and RFS.
