Tender Details
The Parramatta Light Rail seeks to support the NSW Government's vision of a Metropolis of three cities, offering light rail and active transport connections between the Western Parkland City, Central River City and Eastern Harbour City. Construction of Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 is underway, connecting Westmead to Carlingford with a two-way track, spanning 12 kilometres and is expected to open in 2024. By 2026, around 28,000 people are expected to use Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 every day, with an estimated 130,000 people living within walking distance of the 16 light rail stops.
Planning and development work for Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 is continuing, including the Enabling Works to deliver a public and active transport bridge the across Parramatta River and approaches between Wentworth Point and Melrose Park.
With construction expected to commence in 2024 (subject to Planning Approvals), it will be the first significant crossing over Parramatta River since the Ryde Bridge was completed in 1987. The bridge will provide a much needed connection for the growing communities north and south of the river, thus unlocking the Sydney Olympic Park peninsula and its world class sporting, recreational and economic facilities.
