The primary need and objective of the Department is to establish a panel for legal services for the Inquiries and Representation (‘IIR’) team within DCJ Legal.

The Legal Services Panel will be segmented into two segments to establish a broader selection of Junior Counsel and Solicitors with expertise in specific areas of law:

Segment 1 - Representation of the Department by Junior Counsel

•assisting in inquests and inquiries;

•representing the Commissioner of Corrective Services NSW in death in custody inquests;

•representing Youth Justice NSW in inquests and inquiries;

•representing Communities in inquests;

•representing the Department in other inquiries such as Special Commissions of Inquiry, Royal Commissions of Inquiry and ICAC inquiries;

•fraud prosecutions;

•Anti-Discrimination Board/Australian Human Rights Commission matters; and

•Tenancy and housing matters.

Segment 2 - Representation of Witnesses before Investigative Bodies by Junior Counsel or Solicitor

•applications under s 52 of the Independent Commission Against Corruption Act 1988

•applications under s 77 of the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission Act 2016; and

•applications under s 42 of the Crime Commission Act 2012.
