Tender Details

Rail Corporation New South Wales (RailCorp) is a New South Wales Government Agency constituted under the Transport Administration Act 1988 (NSW), with responsibility for the provision of passenger rail services within New South Wales.

In this RFT Document, RailCorp is seeking a specialist railway contractor to supply all materials, plant & equipment, labour, consumables, PPE and sub-contractor support to carry out rail grinding on its rail system.  RailCorp has three primary objectives in relation to rail grinding, those being:

           the achievement of the specified rail profile;

           the achievement of the specified surface finish; and

           a minimum metal removal of 0.2mm within the contact band.

RailCorp has approx 1,500kms of track that will be ground during various grinding cycles. The rail system is centred on Sydney and is bounded by Newcastle, Lithgow (Bowenfels), Macarthur and Nowra (Bomaderry).

Grinding cycles are based on a combination of rail type, traffic type, track radius and annual tonnage.  RailCorp targets to grind 650 to 800 kms of track per year, including approximately twenty to twenty five kilometres of rail in tunnels.  In addition, RailCorp expects to grind 350 to 450 turnouts per year.

RailCorp’s intention is to have the services commence on 1 July 2013.  Tenderers are to provide a Mobilisation Programme for their tender.  However, if mobilisation takes longer, RailCorp will still consider any tender that seeks to provide the services from a later date.

It is assumed that metal removal is achieved by rail grinding, but this does not preclude Tenderers from offering alternative rail rectification techniques.
