As part of a program to improve efficiency RailCorp is looking to improve maintenance procedures through the application of automated condition monitoring of equipment. This project is aimed at the replacement of manual inspections with automatic inspections of train pantographs and pantograph carbon strips. The automated Pantograph Condition Monitoring System (PCMS) will improve reliability by identifying defects on pantograph equipment, including carbon strips and their condition and rate of wear.
