Burrawang Water Pumping Station WP0174 is part of the Shoalhaven Water Supply Scheme. WP0174 pumps water from Fitzroy Reservoir to Wingecarribee Reservoir via a tunnel, pipeline and canal transfer system. WP0174 is located on the northern end of Wildes Meadow Canal on the Wildes Meadow Road, Burrawang.
WP0174 contains two 4 MW motors mounted on vertical mixed flow pumping units. The electrical supply for the motors is via 2 x 132/11.55kV transformers.
Both transformers were inspected and tested in December 2005. In each case the transformers were found to be requiring mid-life refurbishment including replacement of all HV bushes. The inspection report notes major component deficiencies with both transformers including:
1. high levels of PCB's in the 132kV bushings
2. internal arcing within the windings
3. leaking oil from gaskets around the transformers
4. the high voltage HV bushings have deteriorated and are no longer serviceable.
The scope of works includes the removal, refurbishment, installation, testing and pre-commissioning in readiness for service of Transformer No. 1.
SCA may also require the same scope of works undertaken in relation to Transformer No. 2 plus either of the following additional work as nominated by the Tenderer:
1. filtering to de-chlorinate the existing oil and reduce the PCB concentration in Transformer No. 2; or
2. replace the existing oil with new synthetic oil in Transformer No. 2.
However, due to operational constraints, a time for removal and refurbishment of Transformer No. 2 cannot presently be determined.
Tenderers must detail the work to be carried out at each stage of the process together with the proposed methodology for the removal, workshop inspection and testing, refurbishment, return, installation, testing and pre-commissioning of the transformers ready for service.
