Upgrade of Upper Canal Fish Bio-Monitoring Stations: Civil Works - Sydney Catchment Authority

Sydney Catchment Authority is responsible for the supply of raw water to the Prospect Water Filtration Plant (WFP). The water filtration plant is an integral part of Sydney's drinking water supply. It receives water from Warragamba Dam via twin pipelines and from the Upper Nepean Dams via the Upper Canal. Currently, fish bio-monitoring stations are installed at Broughton Pass and Liverpool Dam and are the only front-line technology used to detect a potentially toxic contamination of the water. New bio-monitoring stations are to be installed to replace those above. The SCA requires the Contractor to carry out the associated civil works prior to the installation of the new bio-monitoring units.

Refurbishment of 132kV/11kV Transformers at Burrawang Pumping Station - Sydney Catchment Authority

Burrawang Water Pumping Station WP0174 is part of the Shoalhaven Water Supply Scheme. WP0174 pumps water from Fitzroy Reservoir to Wingecarribee Reservoir via a tunnel, pipeline and canal transfer system. WP0174 is located on the northern end of Wildes Meadow Canal on the Wildes Meadow Road, Burrawang. WP0174 contains two 4 MW motors mounted on vertical mixed flow pumping units. The electrical supply for the motors is via 2 132/11.55kV transformers. Both transformers were inspected and tested in December 2005. In each case the transformers were found to be requiring mid-life refurbishment including replacement of all HV bushes. The inspection report notes major component deficiencies with both transformers including: " high levels of PCB's in the 132kV bushings " internal arcing within the windings " leaking oil from gaskets around the transformers " the high voltage HV bushings have deteriorated and are no longer serviceable.
