Tender Details

The Sydney Trains electrical network has a number of AC Traction Substations and DC Sectioning Huts that were commissioned more than 60 years ago. Sydney Trains has developed a strategy for the roll-out of pre-fabricated structures to replace and renew traditional brick buildings.
To determine the viability of this program, the replacement of the existing Knapsack Sectioning Hut, located in Glenbrook NSW will be run as a pilot project. The success of this project will allow Sydney Trains to implement a wider roll-out of prefabricated Section Huts and Substations.
Sectioning Huts are generally located between Traction substations and contains DC Circuit breakers and related equipment. It provides protection and Sectioning of the Overhead traction supply (1500V DC) and improves voltage regulation.
Sydney Trains is seeking responses from experienced, suitably qualified suppliers who have a demonstrative ability to meet its requirements for the design, manufacture and delivery of a Pre-fabricated Sectioning Hut complete with all components. Additionally, the work includes civil works, installation, testing, training and maintenance as detailed in this tender.

It has been identified that within the next 10 years the Sydney Trains Electrical Network requires action to be taken to refit or replace a number of identified Sectioning Huts and Substations that were in the most part commissioned more than 60 years ago and are at “end of life”. A cost effective solution that has been identified is to replace the traditional Sectioning Hut/Substation brick buildings with prefabricated buildings. This allows a reduction in construction costs, less work being carried out in the Rail Corridor leading to less construction risk and a reduced construction program.

The site identified for the installation of the first of pre-fabricated Sectioning Hut is Knapsack Sectioning Hut, Glenbrook NSW located in the Blue Mountains region.

The scope will involve:

1) Design of the Sectioning Hut
2) Design of building services, but not limited to:

- General Light & Power
- Fire life and safety

3) Transport, lifting (crane) and mounting in situ into final  position on the Site, and installation of the portable Sectioning Hut and equipment
4) Civil works to install the Sectioning Hut
5) Delivery to the  project Site
6) Design, installation, and Site integration of the Sectioning Hut equipment, including but not limited to:
