Tender Details

This brief outlines the general requirements for the detailed design documentation of the major exhibits hall, exhibition design and landscape design for the upgrade of the Rail Heritage Centre at Thirlmere for the Office of Rail Heritage, RailCorp, in partnership with NSW Rail Transport Museum (NSWRTM). The technical information in this document is provided as a starting point to assist in the development of the detailed design but should be reviewed through the design development phases and updated to reflect the specific requirements of the project. The Rail Heritage Centre at Thirlmere is to be upgraded to accommodate and present a significant component of the NSW Governments core rail heritage collection. NSWRTM established the Centre in 1975. It operates rail tours from Thirlmere as well as presenting a range of rail heritage items on site. The Centres upgrade is a key element of RailCorps Sustainable Heritage Management Strategy to conserve and display the States rail heritage (Documentation attached in original EOI). John Watkins, the NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Transport, announced the Strategy on 4 August 2006. The Office of Rail Heritage was subsequently established to oversee the implementation of the Strategy. In January 2007 the Office of Rail Heritage commissioned the development of a resolved concept design for the upgrade of the Rail Heritage Centre. Tenders are now being sought for the detailed design of the major exhibits hall, exhibition design and landscape design for the Centres upgrade based on the agreed concept design.
