Tender Details
The NSW Koala Strategy aims to prevent koala extinction and double koala population numbers. A key component of the Strategy is advancing scientific knowledge of koala population distribution, trends, and dynamics. A multi-year, field-based research program called the Sentinel Population Program is being implemented to address how various factors influence koala population dynamics across NSW. The tender is for a specialist team to undertake comprehensive and multi-agent disease analyses of koala tissue samples. These analytical and data services will contribute to an advanced understanding of the epidemiology of key disease agents in NSW koala populations and their influence on population dynamics. This will inform effective conservation decision-making planning tools and development of effective koala management strategies.
The provider for this tender needs to have the skills and capability to receive and store koala blood, tissue, and swab samples, as well as to conduct comprehensive and multi-agent disease analyses. The provider must have expertise in analytical procedures, including but not limited to biochemical, hematological, molecular, and clinical approaches. The analytical and data services to be provided should generate reliable data on key koala disease agents, disease risks, and immune markers that can be used to advance the understanding of the epidemiology of these diseases in NSW koala populations. The provider must also have the capability to undertake technical reporting of findings, quality assurance, and storage of data in an open-source database. This database will allow for effective data management and sharing, promoting collaboration and further research. By providing advanced scientific knowledge of koala population dynamics, disease risks, and immune markers, the provider will contribute to the development of effective koala management strategies and the prevention of koala extinction.
