Organisational background

• The Greater Cities Commission is driving Australia’s first global city region – the Six Cities Region in NSW.? We’re doing this to deliver the benefits of global economic scale and local liveability for everyone who lives here.

• The Commission is a statutory body and reports directly to the NSW Government. We are an independent agency within the Transport and Infrastructure cluster.

Project background

• The Greater Sydney Commission website was built in 2016 on a custom Drupal 7 instance. The website infrastructure is supported by Amazon Web Services scalable cloud technology, and MySQL databases. Since then, numerous business campaigns have required custom builds to the front end interface and back end functionality, resulting in an inconsistent and very complex website.

• In April 2022, the Greater Sydney Commission became the Greater Cities Commission, underpinned by the Greater Cities Commission Act.As a new organisation with a large volume of digital content to be delivered in the coming years, a website review and redevelopment is required (phase 1).

• A key function of the new website will be to adequately support large volumes of strategic planning information, and in late 2023 the hosting of a draft strategic plans microsite (phase 2).

Objectives

• Development of a new website that becomes the cornerstone of all digital communications for the Greater Cities Commission.

• A website that is a user-centred product with an intuitive interface, and a clean and consistent design that reflects the Commission’s personality.

• Information architecture that logically presents the hierarchy of business content.

• Compliance with WCAG 2.1AA standards and developed using inclusive design practices.

• A microsite that provides an engaging digital accompaniment to the vision of the draft strategic plans.
