Tender Details
The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) presently utilises a variety of aviation assets for delivery of firefighting services across NSW. Both fixed and rotary wing aircraft are used for a range of tactical and transport roles in support of firefighting and other emergency operations.
After the successful integration of a contracted CH-47D Chinook Type 1 (Heavy) Helicopter into the Aerial Firefighting fleet, the NSW Government allocated funding for the NSW RFS to purchase its own Type 1 (Heavy) Helicopter (CH-47 Chinook or similar). An owned Type 1 (Heavy) Helicopter will supplement the capabilities of the existing fleet of fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft that are owned or contracted by NSW RFS through State (Call When Needed) and National (National Aerial Firefighting Centre – NAFC) contracting arrangements.
The Helicopter will be owned by the NSW RFS with the management, operation, maintenance and support services for aircraft outsourced to a third-party Supplier (the Supplier). A procurement process is currently underway for the NSW RFS purchase of a Type 1 (Heavy) Helicopter (refer RFT 2022-10). Once the exact make/model and specifics of the Helicopter are known, the NSW RFS intends to run a second procurement process to engage a Supplier to provide management, operation, maintenance and support services for Helicopter, under a long term Services Contract. The likely term of the Services Contract will be a five (5) year initial term with a performance based extension option of a further five (5) year term (i.e. 5+5).
