Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority is seeking Applications from potential Stallholders who would like to trade at The Rocks Market, Sydney, with the aim of revitalising the market to meet the objectives detailed below.

After 16 years as a Sydney icon, The Rocks Market is being revitalised. The Foreshore Authority is introducing fresh produce to create the city's premier Farmers' Market. A new directional Designers' Market will showcase fashion, homewares, accessories, artwork and gifts. And the traditional area of The Rocks Market will be devoted to goods, products and services that are unique, authentic, high quality, inspiring, current, contemporary, relevant, customised and Australian.

The objectives of the revitalisation are to:
  • Create a market experience with a point of difference from other markets in Sydney
  • Create a market experience that encourages visitors to explore the precinct through constant change, providing something new to discover each visit
  • Develop a market which creates minimal environmental impact and works towards the sustainability objectives of the Authority
  • Create an authentic farmers market which engenders a sense of community in the precinct and supports sustainable agricultural practice
  • Foster local creative talent and designers
  • Create a market which stimulates repeat visitation by Sydneysiders as well as visitors to Sydney
  • Encourage Australian made products


The revitalised Rocks Market will continue to operate every Saturday and Sunday, from 10.00am to 5.00pm, at the northern end of George Street, The Rocks.

To ensure that The Rocks Market offers a fresh, vibrant experience each week, there will be no 'permanent' Stallholders. Successful applicants wishing to book a stall must register their interest online, to trade either for a one week or four week period. Successful applicants will be issued with an online user name and password which will be valid for 12 months, and which can be used to register for a stall each week.

At the end of 12 months the Authority will review the product range of all Registered Stallholders to ensure that they are still suitable for The Rocks Market. If, at or after this time, the Authority decides that the products are no longer suitable, then the Authority can notify the Registered Stallholder that their registration has come to an end.

This is the second Call for Applications for Registration as a Stallholder at The Rocks Market. The first was advertised in October 2007. Since the Application for Registration (AFR) was first advertised a number of modifications have been made to the conditions under which Applicants are applying.

These modified arrangements are:
  • maintaining the existing canopy for at least the next 12 months
  • maintaining storage for the next 12 months for existing stallholders who submit successful applications
  • giving stallholders the opportunity to trade for either one or four weeks at a time, depending on their preference
