The BreastScreen NSW Coordination Unit is asking for submissions for the provision of medical physics services across the BreastScreen NSW Program. For the purposes of the medical physics services, management responsibility will be via the State Radiographer, BreastScreen NSW Coordination Unit.
In March 2007, the Premier of NSW the Hon. Morris Iemma MP announced a $23 million investment over the next 3 years for the state-wide introduction of digital mammography systems and a standardised information management system for BreastScreen NSW. The Medical Physics Services will be a key support service for the successful implementation of this high-priority strategy. The core functions of the medical physics service will include, but are not limited to:
-coordinate equipment testing and registration to meet the NSW EPA requirements,
-develop and maintain an equipment register,
-develop, monitor, and oversee a standardised approach state-wide for equipment testing, registration, preventative maintenance (including scheduling); technical quality assurance for all imaging equipment utilised across the screening & assessment pathways (including mammography digital & analogue, ultrasound, film processing, and other relevant image acquisition systems; equipment installation, evaluation, acceptance testing, and issues resolution to ensure compliance with BreastScreen Australia, RANZCR / NATA, any other relevant organisations as may be required,
-with input and advice from the State Radiographer and BreastScreen NSW Coordination Unit, develop and prepare a standardised State Medical Physics Manual (including standardised templates and associated documentation) outlining the full range of equipment testing protocols and quality assurance requirements for all equipment used by the Program, and update as required,
-Provide timely expert advice to the Coordination Unit, as required, in relation to equipment and image quality standards (particularly digital mammography, and PACS) as relates to complying with BreastScreen Australia National Standards and/or other relevant organisations, emerging technologies of relevance to the Program, findings or information from evidence based research of relevance to the Program.
