Tender Details

The NSW Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water (DECCW) wishes to commission a suitably qualified consultant to undertake an assessment of the future vulnerability of NSW to natural hazards. The objectives of the project are to:

·         identify past and potential future scenarios in which natural hazards in NSW have given, or could potentially give rise to emergency situations;

·         identify the key factors contributing to these scenarios becoming significant emergencies (as defined by individual NSW emergency management agencies) and develop key indicators for each category of natural hazard to allow the identification of future significant emergency scenarios; and

·         identify the likely impacts of climate change on each category of natural hazard that may give rise to significant emergency scenarios.

The categories of natural hazards to be analysed include:

·         Bush fires;

·         Coastal erosion;

·         Flooding (broad scale flooding, flash flooding and coastal inundation);

·         Hail;

·         Landslides;

·         Strong winds (including tornadoes); and

·         Tsunamis.

This information will assist emergency management agencies to identify and prioritise adaptation responses to climate change in areas where it may alter the frequency and intensity of existing natural hazards.
