The NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) provides’ high quality internationally competitive education and training and manages’ over 2,200 schools. For the purposes of this Contract The schools are divided into three areas which covers the DET’s State Wide 10 regions; The Metropolitan Area comprises’ of Sydney, Northern Sydney, South-Western Sydney, and Western Sydney regions, and Regional and Rural areas comprises of Hunter/Central Coast, North Coast, New England in the North and North West, Riverina, Illawarra/South Coast East and Western NSW in the South. A map depicting the area boundaries and the districts within it are included in the Annexure to this Section of the Specification.
Demountable buildings are an essential part of the DET’s asset portfolio and provide accommodation in schools to meet needs arising from increased enrolments, emergency response to fire damage and during implementation of capital works and maintenance projects. The demountable buildings include classrooms, toilet blocks, Halls and libraries.
As an average, about 800 to 900 buildings are moved within the State each year with 60% of the movements taking place between October and February. It is imperative that all movements are completed within the stipulated time frame especially during December and January to ensure demountables are in place and commissioned ready for use on day one term one.
