Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water / Chimpanzee Exhibit Refurbishment - C2009.021

The Works in this Contract (C2009.021, DoC Ref. 0901703) provides for the construction of night house refurbishment, separation paddock, open paddock, western viewing shelter and viewing deck.

The proposed Chimpanzee Exhibit refurbishment will be an integral part of Taronga Zoo's regional Chimpanzee breeding program and will become a feature of the existing "African Waterhole" precinct.

The Separation Paddock comprises:

·       Aviary type mesh structure over separation Paddock

·       Climbing Structures & Platforms

·       Separation and non climb barrier between paddocks;

·       Wet weather chimpanzee shelter

The refurbishment  of the night house will address OH&S compliance issues and is to include:

·       New gates to keeper access area;

·       Demolition of central brickwork holding areas

·       Addition of caged holding area, vertical slides and exits;

·       Replacement of existing mesh;

·       Replacement of existing mechanical ventilation;

·       Upgrading of existing electrical and lighting.

Refurbishment of the remaining Open Paddock is to include:

·       New climbing structures;

·       Additional trees and ;

·       Relocation of palm trees. 

Refurbishment of the Western view shelter:

·       New walls and roof;

·       Improved glazed viewing;

·       New Interpretive & Thematic Immersion. 

Refurbishment of the viewing deck:

·       Rebuilding of the deck. 

Refurbishment of the moat to include new pumps to generate greater water movement.

Tenderers have been selected through the Department of Commerce's Best Practice Contractor Accreditation Scheme.  Only the following tenderers are invited to tender for the Contract:

The tender documents will be sent directly to the Tenderers in electronic (compact disc) format.

Attendance of Mandatory Pre-tender Meeting at 10 am on 16 September, 2009 (Wednesday) at CW&I Building, at the Goods & Services Entry. Taronga Zoo, (end of Prince Albert Street), Mosman.

Tenders close at the specified time and date (on the letter of invitation to tender) at the Taronga Zoo Tender Box located in the Capital Works & Infrastructure Building at the end of Prince Albert Street, Mosman.
