NSW Health / Safe Haven Program - ISLHD_2210917

The Mental Health Service (MHS) for Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) is responsible for implementing the Ministry of Health’s Towards Zero Suicides initiatives in this region – with the Safe Haven Program being one of these initiatives. ISLHD Mental Health Services has determined the best strategy for this service is to contract it out to the Community Managed Organisation (CMO)/ Non – Government Organisation (NGO) sector. 

The service will provide a welcoming, non-clinical environment for guests to connect with suicide prevention peer workers and find information about a range of other supports. When accessing the service, guests presenting are able to receive support from suicide prevention peer workers through non-clinical, person-centred, recovery-oriented and trauma-informed peer support, specifically: psychosocial support, safety planning, recovery/wellness planning, individual or group peer support, and advocacy.
