Tender Details
Early in February 2009 a concrete façade panel disengaged itself from the exterior of the
Griffith Base Hospital (refer to photo on page 3). Immediately after the panel disengaged
itself local Structural Engineering firm Xeros Kendall carried out a site investigation and
confirmed that all the panels are structurally unsound and need to be removed.
Following on from this report GSAHS staff have completed remedial works to protect the
safety of patients, public and staff by providing barriers and propping to the panels in the
circulation and passage areas. Security fencing has also been installed to the perimeter of
the building to prevent people from entering any potential areas of risk. Work cover was
notified and visited site 12/2/09 and were satisfied with safety measures implemented and
have continued to monitor works, as required.
On 10th July, the Department of Commerce (DoC) was engaged by GSAHS to develop a
scoping report for the removal of the panels including the design of a new facade. DoC
subsequently engaged Architectural firm Leffler Simes Pty Ltd & Structural Engineers
Henry & Hymas to carry out a site investigation of the Griffith Base Hospital building.
