Tender Details
The Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) has several manual winches on dam crests within the Blue Mountains system which have been found to be in poor condition, at the end of their serviceable life, and at present represent a medium Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) risk to the SCA. These winches are located at Greaves Creek, Lake Medlow, and Middle Cascade Dams. A recommendation has been made that these outdated winches be replaced with new electric winches.
The winches are used to raise and adjust the position of the trunnion outlet structures in the dam reservoirs. The design of the winches makes operational tasks unnecessarily strenuous while the gearing mechanisms and other moving parts are not guarded. Chains used on these winches are also badly corroded with significant loss of linkage cross-sectional area.
The trunnion systems at Lake Medlow, Greaves Creek and Middle Cascade Dams date back to 1907, 1908 and 1942 respectively.
The purpose of this contract is to replace the existing manual winches and chain which raise and lower the inlet pipes/trunnions at Lake Medlow, Greaves Creek and Middle Cascade Dams with electrically power operated winches and new chain.
