Tender Details
NSW Rail Transport Museum (NSWRTM) established the Rail Heritage Centre at Thirlmere in 1975. NSWRTM uses the centre to operate rail tours and to present a range of rail heritage items.
As part of RailCorp’s Sustainable Heritage Management Strategy[1], the Rail Heritage Centre at Thirlmere is to be upgraded to accommodate and present a significant component of the NSW Government’s core rail heritage collection.
Stage 1 of the upgrade was the construction of a workshop facility and is already underway as part of a separate design and construction contract.
Stage 2 of the upgrade is the construction of the entry park, exhibit hall and associated landscaping and exhibition works. The design documentation for stage two has been completed.
[1] John Watkins, the NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Transport, announced the Strategy to conserve and display the State’s rail heritage on 4 August 2006. The Office of Rail Heritage was subsequently established to oversee the implementation of the Strategy.
