This project has been established to test an automated passenger counting solution that could provide both real-time and historic information on the number of passengers that utilise Olympic Park Station

This project has been established to test an automated passenger counting solution that could provide both real-time and historic information on the number of passengers that utilise Olympic Park Station. The system will initially be piloted to capture passengers arriving by rail and departing by Platforms 1 and 4.

It is expected that the successful implementation of the project will deliver a two-fold benefit: actual number of passenger utilising the Station during special events e.g. musical concerts, major sports and cultural events, and also understand the increase in business passengers. With this information, RailCorp will then be able to schedule the required trains according to transport needs.

The Station is busy, particularly during special events - RailCorp provides additional services to cater for the additional crowds that commute to and from the Station to attend these events.

On certain events, RailCorp employs passenger counters to count the number of passengers travelling to and from Olympic Park to ascertain the number of passengers travelling to different events.  Since this is a manual count, the numbers obtained are estimates only and do not accurately reflect the actual figures this affects the provision of adequate services to meet demands for particular events.

In non-event mode, the station services the Station precinct and its venues/workers as more businesses move to the Olympic Park precinct. It is essential to obtain daily travel figures to better understand and benchmark when operating business-as-usual.

Olympic Park Station services approximately 700 passenger entries and exits each normal business day. The estimated average number on a special event day is approximately 53,000 passenger entries and exists.

The proposals in response to this RFQ must cover the pilot installation of counters for three gates to Olympic Park Station. Provided the pilot is successful, the passenger counters may be rolled out to the full eighteen gates with all related infrastructure.
