RailCorp seeks to engage a licensed asbestos removal Contractor to undertake the removal of asbestos from 6 locomotives:
This will involve dismantling various components of the locomotive to gain access to the asbestos, removal and reassembly of the locomotives. The dismantling and asbestos removal will occur within appropriate enclosures whilst the locomotives are in situ.
All of the locomotives have heritage significance, and in accordance with obligations placed on RailCorp under the NSW Heritage Act 1977 as amended, the removal and replacement of any panels or components, must be undertaken in a manner that does not damage the locomotive or any components.
