Tender Details

In 2020, the NSW Government commissioned a review of the NSW VET sector with the intent to ensure that NSW remains nationally and internationally competitive, and that VET is regarded as a desirable option for school leavers.

The subsequent report recommended that Careers NSW (this Program) be established to provide ‘career development’ advice to NSW School Students.

The report also advised that:

• Careers advice, guidance and support are inadequate across NSW,

• Information on labour market demand is hard to interpret, fragmented, often incomplete and difficult to navigate, and

• It is difficult to find current, reliable information

As a result of the review, Careers NSW has been established to provide career guidance to NSW residents at any stage of their career. Students and people looking to change careers or further develop their skills will have access to tailored career guidance wherever they live in NSW.

All Tenderers should note the findings and recommendations in the David Gonski and Peter Shergold review In the Same Sentence, particularly the Introduction, and Chapter 2, “Careers guidance for all”

Careers NSW Program Phases

• Careers NSW Program Pilot and Expansion of Careers NSW to all NSW Adult Residents (Not part of this Open Tender).

The NSW Government undertook a “Careers NSW Pilot Program” from September 2021 to November 2022, which was concurrently launched with the Careers NSW website (www.careers.nsw.gov.au) which is also linked to Service NSW online.

This Pilot has been available to a select number of NSW Regions and was instigated to pilot the delivery of careers practitioner, employment support services, and industry expert services to NSW Adult Residents of 18 years or older.

As of December 2022, Careers NSW expanded so that all NSW Adult Residents have access to Careers NSW services, which includes the ability to book an appointment with qualified Careers Development Practitioners, as well as Industry Experts.

• Careers NSW Program School-Based Trials

The second phase of the Program includes the delivery of Careers NSW School Services.

Initial school consultations (ending in December 2021) identified several principles on which the School Trials are based.

Three (3) school trials were planned by the Department of Education to assist with consultation and determining the development and delivery of a Careers NSW service to schools.

These Trials complement existing career advice services in schools and require qualified Career Practitioner Services only.

  • The first school trial began on 8th August 2022 and was completed on 30th September 2022 (8 weeks) (not part of this Open Tender).
  • The second and third school trials (part of this Open Tender) will begin Term 2 (T2), 2023 for a 12-month period, over a minimum of 2 school terms.
