Department of Education / Supply of an Enterprise Service Bus - DETIT071101

The NSW Department of Education and Training delivers public education and training from early childhood, through to the compulsory years of schooling (Kindergarten to Year 10), and senior secondary education (in Years 11 and 12). It also provides TAFE courses, adult and community education courses.

In June 2007, the Minister for Education announced a series of major upgrades to the delivery of educational services, the "Connected Classrooms" initiative, which includes new services such as video-conferencing, linked electronic whiteboards, and interactive learning tools.

Implementation of "Connected Classrooms" requires substantial upgrades to IT facilities in many areas. This RFT addresses only one of these areas - the acquisition and implementation of an Enterprise Services Bus (ESB) within NSW DET.

System integration is expected to become dominated by the use of an ESB underpinning a service-oriented approach. The ESB is required to provide messaging and other service access functions across a range of platforms within NSW DET, and must be expandable to provide services on a wide range of other platforms.
